In today's corporate climate, nearly everyone recognizes the benefits of minimizing their energy usage. Anyone who wants his or her business to run as efficiently as possible is paying attention to environmental and energy issues. The cost of fuel and electricity is no longer something to brush off: when savings can be made, it’s only sensible to find it.
Not only are there real savings to be found in energy costs, but there are plenty of tax benefits to be found for businesses that put the time and resources into making their buildings as energy-efficient as possible.
At MS Consultants, we’re well aware of the financial and environmental benefits that can be derived from energy efficiency. We offer a full range of energy consulting services, including LEED® green building certification, solar energy consulting, and much more.
Additionally, we can not only help your business minimize its energy costs, but we can also conduct a 179D analysis on your commercial buildings and help you earn as much as $1.80 per square foot in tax deductions for your efficiency expenditures. And if your energy-efficient residential buildings were constructed in the last six years, you may qualify for 45L tax credits, which can add up to even more substantial savings.
If you’d like to help your bottom line while helping the environment in which we all live, contact MS Consultants today to speak with one of our professionals or set up a meeting. We’ll show you just how easy it is to be green.
LEED® Green Building Certification
Over a decade ago, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) developed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED. This program was designed to provide a framework for building owners, builders, and managers to identify, measure, and implement environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient building design.
LEED offers a rating system with which buildings and building systems may be evaluated. The LEED rating systems look at all phases of the building lifecycle, from design to construction to operations. Buildings are scored on a variety of fields, from the location of the building to the building systems to the materials used in construction and much, much more.
The prevailing myth is that receiving LEED certification is complicated and costly, and that building to meet LEED standards is prohibitively expensive: neither could be further from the truth. Whether you’re looking to improve and update an existing building to LEED standards, or you’re planning a new construction that you want to be as efficient as possible, many improvements to meet LEED standards need not cost any more than typical building practices.
And the procedure for receiving LEED certification is relatively straightforward, and one that MS Consultants can lead you through. Our LEED-certified professionals have the know-how and experience to make your certification as painless as possible. And the cost of a certification can often be recouped very quickly thanks to the energy savings you’ll realize with your efficient building—not to mention the potential tax credits you can receive thanks to a 179D Analysis.
Any solar consulting engagement begins with a feasibility study. We sit down with you to discuss your goals and the needs and limitations of your budget and your project. We then examine your electric utility bills to establish a baseline of your electric costs. Finally, we examine the property itself, including blueprints, technical specifications, and a physical investigation of the property to determine what kind of system would work for you. This may include investigating the roof area and membrane condition (if a roof-mounted system is an option), local topography, shading, and site conditions (for ground-mounted systems) and evaluate the existing wiring system to determine what additions and improvements will be necessary.
We will work with you to make sure you have a realistic idea of the costs and benefits of any potential solar system. We’ll lay out a long-term plan for the system, and provide an estimate of the amount of time that will pass before the system pays for itself. Additionally, we can conduct a 179D analysis in concert with a solar consultation to determine any tax credits that may be gleaned from a solar installation and any other energy efficiencies present in the building.
